FOCUS served as the exclusive financial advisor to Simplegrid Technology, a New Jersey–based managed services provider specializing in IT and cybersecurity solutions for highly regulated industries. FOCUS ran a competitive six-month process, engaging more than 50 private equity platforms and securing multiple letters of intent, ultimately identifying CompassMSP, an Agellus Capital portfolio company, as the ideal strategic partner. The transaction expands Simplegrid’s access to advanced cybersecurity, cloud capabilities, and national delivery while preserving its high-touch service model, strengthens CompassMSP’s presence in the Northeast, and positions the combined company as a leading managed services provider to compliance-driven organizations.

Michael Birmingham is a Managing Director in FOCUS’ Technology Services Group. He rejoined FOCUS in 2023 and has a wide range of experience partnering with private, sponsor-backed, and founder-owned technology companies across various transaction types. Previously, Mr. Birmingham worked in Baird’s Technology & Services Group, where he focused on M&A within the Government and Defense sector. He started his career in Ernst and Young’s Government and Public Sector Consulting practice working with defense and civilian agencies. Mr. Birmingham is registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) as an Investment Banking Representative and General Securities Representative (Series 79, 7, and 63). Based in the Washington metropolitan area, Mr. Birmingham holds an M.B.A. from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and received his Bachelor of Arts from Dickinson College.
