Challenges Facing Today’s Healthcare System
In the U.S. today, five percent of the population consumes 50 percent of healthcare spending and annual spending on healthcare is 18 percent of the GDP—about $10,000 per resident. Currently, the number of people age 65 and older exceeds 50 million. By 2030 those 65 and older will comprise nearly 20 percent of the population—increasing the need for more focused, coordinated care for the chronically and seriously ill.
