Jim Solberg, Head of the Healthcare Group at FOCUS, has over three decades of investment and capital markets experience at Salomon Smith Barney and its successor organization, Citigroup. Jim has dedicated a considerable portion of his career to advising corporate clients in the healthcare industry on strategic, financing and restructuring matters. He has a wealth of experience and has held senior management positions in broader areas of the financial services industry, risk management, wealth management, investment products, fund management and fiduciary responsibilities. He is an expert in organizational change and leadership effectiveness.

In the healthcare sector Jim has managed over 40 transactions and $30 billion of investment banking financings and strategic transactions. Jim has advised public and private Boards of Directors, C-Suite executives, families, investors, creditors and debtors.  His experience covers the full range of healthcare industry sectors including life sciences, medical devices, healthcare services and diagnostics. The Focus Healthcare Group assists private and public enterprises that cover the spectrum from start-up, to emerging growth, to high growth and established. The Team is dedicated to supporting its clients to effectively: 1) build and grow their business through strategic transactions, 2) navigate generational or management changes, 3) increase the liquidity of the company or its owners, and 4) meet corporate challenges when they appear. While a CPA with Ernst & Young Jim provided management consulting and audit services to a wide-range of public and private companies.

Beyond healthcare, Jim has advised a wide-range of industrial/manufacturing, financial services, retail, energy, transportation, and restaurant businesses. He started and ran a number of new business platforms while at Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup including the first high yield and leverage finance group, the first bridge loan fund, the first dedicated medical device industry group, and the first global firm-wide wealth management and investment product oversight group. Jim served as a senior member of the investment bank’s equity commitment committee, debt commitment committee, retail distribution committee, and investment products and services committee. He also led as multi-year re-engineering of the entire risk management structure for Citigroup’s global wealth management and investment products businesses and was a senior member of the Citigroup insurance oversight committee.

Jim holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut (Magna Cum Laude). He is a CPA.  He continuously refreshes his skills and has recently taken coursework at the Washington University in St Louis School of Law, the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School and the Yale School of Management EDHEC Risk Institute. Jim is a member of the Board of Directors of Ivy Biomedical Systems, Inc. – the market leader for precision cardiac gating monitors used in NM/MI, CT, MR, PET and SPECT. and is on the Board of Directors of NooTools Health - a healthcare product design and development venture.
